About Me

Andrea Luviano graduated as an MD from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (also known as Tecnológico de Monterrey) in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. After graduating, Andrea worked for four years as an advisor to the General Directorate and the Institutional Strategic Planning Directorate of the Mexican Institute of Social Security, the largest social security organization in Latin America. There, she directed the implementation and evaluation of two programs. The first one aimed to improve the waiting times of walk-in patients, and the second one sought to reduce the average waiting time to schedule an appointment from a primary care unit to a specialist. Andrea graduated from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health with an MPH in the Health Policy field of study. After concluding the MPH, Andrea worked for two years as a research assistant at the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics (CIDE) in Aguascalientes, Mexico. At CIDE, Andrea collaborated on the adaptation of a COVID-19 community model and a colorectal cancer model. She also worked on a project on homicides to quantify them as a relevant public health problem in Mexico. Andrea is interested in decision science methods, mathematical modeling, programming techniques, and health equity applied to chronic diseases, including colorectal cancer, gastric cancer, and obesity.
